Abstract
1416222 Electric coaxial cable connector PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Feb 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 5568/73 Heading H2E A connector for connecting two solid dielectric coaxial cables comprises elongate conductive members 9 bearing inwardly extending projections 11 on their ends, which overlap and connect to outer cable conductors 2, and clamping rings 12 and 13. Also claimed are the complete joint and the method of jointing, in which parts of the insulating sheaths 1, conductors 2 and dielectric 3 are removed. Inner conductors 4 are connected by a bush 6 which may have longitudinal slots and a slightly smaller unstressed diameter (d) than that of conductors 4 and be surrounded by an insulating envelope 7 of diameter D such that D/d and hence the impedance is the same as for the cables. Two or more members 9 of copper, nickel plate copper or brass may constitute a closed cylinder, the joints 10 being stepped. The sheath 14 is of unshrinkable polythene or self-vulcanizing sealing tape. Polythene wax or silicone grease may be used between the parts. In another embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) cables of unequal diameter are joined. Envelope 7 is made frusto-conical to maintain the same connector impedance.
