Abstract
1383909 Electric couplings BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 17 April 1972 [15 April 1971 18 May 1971 3 Nov 1971] 9509/71 15597/71 and 51145/71 Heading H2E An electrical connector comprises a rigid body carrying at least two first terminal means 2 spaced around a cable 3, and second terminal means, e.g. 1 for receiving a branch cable neutral conductor. As shown, Fig. 1, the terminals 2 each receive some, but not all, of the wires of a neutral conductor about the cable and are formed with an open slot so that the connector can be used at a service joint position without cutting the neutral conductor. The wires are held in the slot by plate 8 and screws 7. Bores 9 receive neutral conductors 10 or an earth lead 11. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the connector is formed of two or more parts held together by screws or dovetail joints. Slots 17 receive wires 6 or tongues (25) struck out from a solid concentric neutral conductor (Fig. 8, not shown). An anti-creep leaf spring 20 holds plate 19 in contact with the conductors. The sides of the slot may be serrated, and the tongue 25 may be formed as a U, C or tubular cross-section. Figs. (13-15) show typical jointing arrangements using the connector. Two connectors as shown in Fig. 4, one at the end of each cable to be joined, may be used with a flexible interconnecting lead.
