A pot-head (for a telecommunications cable) comprising two tubular parts 1 and 2 which can be joined together and having a plurality of tail conductors 3 entering the tail part 1 at one end, is sealed by packing all of the free space where the conductors enter the tail part and then, with the open end of the tail part of the pot-head uppermost, pouring in a self-polymerizing synthetic resin composition capable of setting to a solid mass 15 adhering to the insulating covering of the tail conductors and to the surrounding pot-head wall 14. The second part of the pothead 2 is then joined to the tail part 1, e.g. by a wiped joint 18, and the outer end of the second member is temporarily closed by a closure member (Fig. 1, not shown). The pot-head may be of lead and the resin composition may have an epoxide base. The tails 3 may be rubber insulated, and taped individually and in quads, the tapings being removed at 7 and 8 and the tails rearranged in concentric circles where they pass into the pot-head, the spaces between circles being packed with cotton wool 10 and the rings of conductors being taped 11, 12 and 13. They are opened out within the pot-head before pouring in resin. The pothead is fitted to a cable 27, as shown, by removing the closure member and breaking the joint 18; slipping the part 2 over the cable sheath and dressing it thereonto; jointing the cable conductors to the tails as at 29, and wiping the pot-head joints 33 and 18. The plug 22 is for air-pressure testing, and an impregnated tape poultice and bandage 24 protect the tails 3 at the point of entry into the pot-head.
