Abstract
916,946. Cable joints or terminations. PIRELLI S.p.A. July 27, 1960 [Aug. 26, 1959], No. 26091/60. Drawings to Specification. Classes 36 and 38 (1). The electrical continuity of semi-conductive layers in high-tension cables is maintained within joints or sealing ends by semi-conductive crepe paper tape which can adapt itself to surface irregularities. A joint construction is described which has a winding of the semiconductive crepe over the conductor jointing ferrule and which has a similar winding over the insulating sleeve surrounding the joint, wound wire stress cores being provided over the non- cylindrical parts of the latter winding. With an oil-filled cable an impermeable poultice of a material such as varnished silk tape may be used around each end of the jointing ferrule, the semi-conductive crepe being wound over the poultice and ferrule.
