Abstract

571,587. Cable sleeves ; insulators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LEE, E. C. Feb. 25. 1944, No. 3520. [Classes 36 and,38 (i)] A cable end is encased within an insulating tube bonded solid to an enclosing porcelain insulator. The tube 19 and insulator 24 are cylindrical and a tight fit, the tube being formed of paper impregnated with polystyrene which, just before fitting, is caused to swell and adhere to the insulator by being coated with a solvent such as styrene or a solution of polystyrene in styrene. The tube is similarly bonded to the cable covering 12, as described in Specification 542,842. The mounting plate 15 carries a copper gland 20, sealed to the tube 19 as described in Specification 548,875, and a sleeve 26 spun over the base of the insulator. The conductor 13 has a copper ferrule 14 passing through a gland 22 and an end cap 27 secured similarly to the gland 20 and sleeve 26. Rubber washers 25, 28 fit into recesses in the ends of the insulator 24.
