Abstract

562,490. Terminal mountings ; cable end constructions. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., and ROSE, C. E. Jan. 14, 1943, No. 741. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A cable terminal bushing 10 mounted on a cable entry chamber 4 to which the sheath 1 is rigidly attached at 6 has a flexible diaphragm 20 forming the connection between the cable end terminal and a ferrule 16 fitted over the upper end of the bushing, to allow for expansion of the cable core and of the compound filling the bushing. The exposed cable end 3 is sweated into a socket 21 of the terminal 23 secured by nuts 25 to the flexible diaphragm 20 of copper, oil-resisting rubber, &c. which has a flange clamped between packing by a ring 18 and a flange 17 on the ferrule 16. The diaphragm is offset to'leave an expansion space 29 above the filling compound and is clamped between a collar 24 and a washer 26, a packing ring 27 being interposed. A similar packing ring 12 is inserted at the base of the insulator. The packing may be of cork or oil-resisting rubber.
