Abstract

906,991. Supply systems for space discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 2, 1960 [Sept. 29, 1959], No. 33085/59. Class 38 (4). In a discharge lamp circuit having a heating transformer primary winding 5 in series with a choke 2 and the lamp 1 and a capacitor 3 connected across the lamp 1 in series with part or all of the choke, each separate electrode heating winding 6, 7 is connected in subtractive voltage relation to the discharge potential in order to give improved waveform also a higher voltage drop across the primary winding 5, when the lamp strikes. One heater CD may be alternatively connected in series with the capacitor and the winding 6 omitted. The capacitor 3 may be alternatively connected to a tap 10 on the choke 2 to increase the starting voltage. A number of arrangements are described in the Specification, for operating lamps in series or parallel, also constructional data is given for a transformer suitable for operating 2-20 watt lamps in series.
