Abstract
715,693. Supply systems for space discharge devices; transformer arrangements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WILLIAMS, C. E. July 29, 1952 [July 30, 1951], No. 18006/51. Class 38(4) A dimming circuit arrangement for a plurality of hot or cold cathode electric discharge lamps comprises a first group of two or more transformers 1, 2 whose primary windings 3, 4 are serially connected with each other and with a dimming impedance 5 to constant voltage A.C. supply terminals 6, 7, a second group of two or more transformers 8, 9 whose primary windings 10, 11 are similarly connected and are therefore in parallel with those of the first group, the secondary winding 12, 13 of each first group transformer being connected in series with both a secondary winding 14, 15 of a second group transformer and one or more series connected lamps 16, 17, and the induced voltages in each such secondary circuit being additive to one another. The dimming impedance 5 may be a variable resistor, and one side of each secondary winding may be earthed. If the lamps are of the hot cathode type, electrode heating arrangements are provided.
