Abstract

703,255. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CATES, J. July 16, 1951 [Aug. 3, 1950], No. 19444/50. Class 38 (4) At least one pair S1, S2, of electrode-heating secondary windings are so directed that the voltages induced therein are in opposition to that applied to the primary winding P of an instant start circuit arrangement for operating one or more discharge lamps each having two pre-heatable electrodes, the arrangement including the primary winding connected to an A.C. supply, possibly through a ballast impedance, and connections between the primary winding and the said pair of secondary windings for the supply of operating current to the lamp(s), the said connections possibly also or alternatively including a ballast impedance L. The invention is shown applied to two series connected lamps T, T2 of which the adjacent electrodes F2, F3 are supplied by a further secondary winding 3. The lamps have earthed starting strips E1, E2 and radio interference suppression condensers C1, C2. The arrangement may alternatively comprise parallel connected lamps. One ballast impedance may be inductive, capacitive, resistive, combinations thereof, or may comprise incandescent lamps.
