Abstract

898,237. Refuse consuming furnaces. SCORER Ltd., A. B. March 15, 1961 [March 16, 1960], No. 9202/60. Class 51 (1). A refuse-consuming furnace has a primary combustion chamber, and a secondary chamber into which additional air for combustion is supplied by tangential nozzles. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the primary chamber A is below the secondary chamber B and connected to it by a duct a, and contains a grate A<SP>1</SP> supplied with refuse through doors a<SP>1</SP> or from above the grate. In chamber B, near the inlet is a smaller diameter vortex chamber b having on each side of it, but located in the secondary chamber, rings of tangential nozzles C which are supplied with air by a fan through a manifold C<SP>1</SP>. A gas- or oil-burner E may be provided at the inlet end of the secondary chamber to assist the combustion of the gases, which pass out of chamber B into an exhaust duct B<SP>1</SP> which may contain a fan. A modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), has the secondary chamber B arranged vertically above chamber A.
