Abstract
554,709. Gas scrubbers. BRAYSHAW FURNACES & TOOLS, Ltd., BRAYSHAW, S. N., NEWMAN, F. C., and RUSHTON, F. April 23, 1942, No. 5439. [Class 55 (ii)] Gases given off at the water discharge end of a U-pipe a forming a water trap for the water discharged from a gas scrubber are carried away through an extension B of the U-pipe. Air, admitted through a liquid discharge opening d, and passing over the outflowing liquid in a horizontal pipe a<1>, carries away the gases passing up the pipe B. The air and gas current may be increased by the use of a fan, or by injecting compressed air or steam into the pipe B. Alternatively, a burner b', Fig. 6, may increase the gas current by convection, a restricted throat b<4> bringing inflammable gases into contact with the flame. An electric heating element b<5>, Fig. 7, in the pipe B or around it serves the same purpose.
