Abstract

739,749. Washing gases. CRESPI, A. V. Jan. 7, 1954 [Feb. 13, 1953], No. 537/54. Class 55 (2). Apparatus for purifying gases, for example, those emitted from smoke flues and chimneys, by washing comprises a casing 16 having baffles, a spray nozzle 34 and a gas outlet 20 larger than the gas inlet 14, the baffles consisting of annular baffles 22 in association with central baffles 24 of funnel or conical shape. The central baffles 24 are preferably supported as shown on a tubular support 26 which surrounds a pipe 30 supplying washing water to the spray nozzle 34. The casing may be made in sections which fit together and the inlet 14 has a downwardly extending extension with a flange 12 to be inserted in or on a chimney. The inlet 14 also carries a spider 28 for the tubular support 26 and the cross-sectional areas of the inlet and outlet are in a ratio of not less than 1 : 3. The casing has a water outlet 38.
