Class 75(1) A pulverized fuel burner comprises a body a having at its centre an oil spraying nozzle e for providing an ignition flame, an annular cavity f surrounding the nozzle, an annular air duct g containing vanes h directing a swirling air stream into the open end of the cavity f and a tangentially arranged pulverized fuel inlet i situated adjacent the closed end of the cavity. The annular air duct g is formed by a pair of flat surfaces and receives air from an air jacket c surrounding the combustion chamber b. The annular cavity f is of tapered form.
