Abstract

878,260. Multi-gap cold-cathode tubes. MULLARD Ltd. Oct. 13, 1959, No.34671/59. Addition to 875,484, Class 39(1). In the cold-cathode stepping tube of the parent Specification in which a central anode is surrounded by a circular row of cathodes and in which there is also provided at least one marker cathode to which and from which a discharge may transfer during the travel of the discharge around the electrode assembly, the surface of the marker cathode has a higher work function than the surfaces of the row of cathodes in order to increase the breakdown voltage between the marker electrode and the anode. The marker cathode may comprise nickel coated with platinum, or a solid platinum wire, and the anode and the row of cathodes may be made of nickel, or the marker cathode may be made of nickel and the row of cathodes of molybdenum.
