Abstract
848,340. Thermionic-cathode tubes. EDGERTON, GERMESHAUSEN & GRIER Inc. April 23, 1957 [April 25, 1956], No. 12930/67. Class 39(1). A discharge tube cathode comprises a number of thin electron-emitting vanes extending towards the anode, and having a length L in this direction given by P being the cathode perimeter, and the other quantities various circuit parameters as defined in the Specification ; the tube is used in a suitable circuit such that the conditions represented by this equation obtain. The tube described, Fig. 1 (not shown), is of the hydrogen thyratron type. The cathode consists of a number of vanes such as 13, 15, 17, coated with emissive material, and contained within a cup 9 which has an inward-curving rim, as at 50. The vanes may be extremely thin, e.g. 0À02 inch, and spaced about 1-2 mm. apart. The vanes are attached to a base member 11 heated by a continuous coil 19. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the vanes are in the form of coaxial cylinders, and they may also be of honey-comb form, Fig. 4 (not shown). U.S.A. Specification 2,592,556 is referred to.
