Abstract

875,272. Cathode-ray tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. July 21, 1958 [Aug. 7, 1957], No. 23386/58. Class 39(1). In a cathode-ray tube the cathode is mounted on a thermonally-responsive member which moves the cathode towards the control electrode on decrease in the temperature of the member and away from the control electrode on increase in the temperature of the member so that the warm up period is shortened and the normal operation of the tube is stabilized. In Fig. 3 the cathode cylinder 19 is supported by a sleeve 29 which forms with the cylinder 19 a bi-metallic element. The cylinder and sleeve may be composed of nickel iron alloys having different nickel contents. In Fig. 4 the cylinder 19 is slidably mounted in insulator 35 by means of a bi-metallic element 41, or the cylinder 19 and strip 41 may together constitute a bi-metallic element.
