Abstract

733,694. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 18, 1952, No. 18212/52. Class 39 (1). In a discharge tube such as a thyratron, the cathode is not connected into the main anodecathode circuit until it has attained a predetermined temperature, when it operates a thermally controlled switch within the envelope. The switch 6 is heated by the cathode heater 4, and when the correct operating temperature is attained, the switch contacts close, completing the H.T. circuit between cathode 5 and anode 2. Fig. 2 (not shown) is a similar tube having a directly heated cathode and a screen grid. Fig. 3 (not shown) is a practical embodiment, the switch comprising a bi-metal strip.
