Abstract

766,881. Thermionic cathode constructions. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 13, 1954 [Oct. 14, 1953], No. 28350/53. Class 39(1). A cathode comprises a cylindrical metal support 1 through which a heater passes, the support being overwound with a helical wire 4, the diameter of the wire being several times the spacing between turns, which spacing is filled with emissive material 5 (or 5<1>) forming a substantially smooth emissive surface. The overwinding wire may itself be overwound with a second, finer, wire 7, again closely spaced compared with its diameter. The support tube and wires may all be of nickel, and sintered together. The cathode may be used in a magnetron.
