Abstract
761,684. Making cathodes for electric discharge tubes; soldering. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. Feb. 16, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9751/54. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XL (a)] A cylindrical dispenser cathode comprises a tube 2 made by continuously welding or solder. ing together adjacent turns of a coil of wire to form a support for a porous mass of sintered refractory metal 5, the pores of which contain the emissive material. The mass 5 may be preformed or formed in situ. The coil 2 may be of tungsten wire, and the soldering effected by winding over it a lower melting-point wire, e.g. molybdenum, and heating, or by using a molybdenum coated wire, at the same time securing locating flanges 7, 8. Some suitable dimensions are given for a magnetron cathode. According to the Provisional Specification, the emissive material may alternatively be formed as a layer on the inner surface of the mass 5. This Specification also shows the turns of the coil 2 as welded together at the ends only, the central turns being spaced apart. Specifications 709,367, 734,209 and 734,311, [all in Group XL (a)], are referred to and' Specification 641,581, [Group XL (a)], is referred to the Provisional Specification.
