Abstract

915,673. Electrically-heated cathodes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Nov. 1, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 39093/61. Class 39 (3). [Also in Group XL (a)] A thermionic cathode comprises a tubular wire mesh 2 surrounded by a coaxial metal tube 1, the tube and mesh being connected together at one end and connected to spaced current leads 3, 5 at the other end. As shown, the mesh 2 comprises right-hand and left-hand helically wound wires, welded together at some, or all, of their intersections. The tubular supply leads 3, 5 are supported by a ceramic plate 4. The dimensions and materials of tube 1 may be such that it is both directly-heated by the passage of current therethrough, and indirectly-heated by passage of current through mesh 2, or such that it is heated substantially wholly indirectly by the mesh 2.
