Abstract
653,707. Electric discharge tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Aug. 12, 1948, No. 21286. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] An indirectly-heated cathode comprises a heater 2 insulatingly housed in a tubular metal envelope 1 which has secured to it, as by welding, a number of wires 3 coated with electron-emitting material, the wires being not more than 50 microns thick, and spaced by at least three wire diameters. The wires may be woven into a gauze forming a flat or cylindrical cathode surface. The spacing between the limbs of the tube 1 is not greater than 200 wire diameters to obtain uniform heating of the gauze. The tube 1 may be formed by swageing, rolling or drawing a complex of relatively insulated conductors and may be bent more than once, e.g. M- instead of U-shape.
