Abstract

875,396. Anodizing aluminium. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Oct. 7, 1958 [Oct. 7, 1957], No. 31919/58. Class 41. Aluminium is anodized in an aqueous acid electrolyte containing a mineral acid, from about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of a metal halide and from about 0.2% by weight to saturation of an organic dicarboxylic acid. The current density may be above 200 amps./ sq. ft., A.C. or D.C. The mineral acid may be sulphuric, sulphamic or chromic acid; the metal halide may be a chloride, bromide or iodide of an alkali or alkaline earth metal; the dicarboxylic acid may be maleic, oxalic, malonic, succinic, or glutaric acid. The bath temperature may be 65‹-95‹ F. and the duration of the process, 30 seconds.
