Abstract
Pure chromium is electrodeposited from an aqueous fluoride bath to which is added a lead salt such as PbCrO4 and/or in which the anode being used is coated with PbO2, e.g. by anodic treatment in a saturated PbF2 solution. The anode is of a metal or alloy, e.g. platinum, palladium or their alloys, that is not attacked by the bath. The bath is preferably contained in a container of polythene or P.T.F.E. A copper cathode may be used. An example of a fluoride bath is 250 g/l CrO3 dissolved in 5 g/l HF, preferably saturated with PbCrO4.
