Abstract

1,192,461. Electrolytically pickling copperberyllium alloys. PECHINEY COMPAGNIE DE PRODUITS CHIMIQUES ET ELECTROMETALLURGIQUES. June 9, 1967 [June 10, 1966], No.26798/67. Heading C7B. A Cu-Be alloy body is electrolytically pickled as anode in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal halide and a wetting agent such as methanol, ethanol or a commercial wetting agent. The Cu-Be alloy may contain either (a) 1À8 to 2À0% Be and optionally less than 1% of Ni or Co, e.g. 1À9% Be and 0À3% Co, or (b) 0À4 to 0À7% Be and 2À3 to 2À7% Co or 1À2 to 2À5% Ni, e.g. 0À5% Be and 2À5% Co. The alkali metal halide may be NaCl. The wetting agent may be cationic, anionic or non-ionic, e.g. based on polyethoxyether. Prior to the electrolysis, the alloy may be thermally treated with the production of an oxide layer. Specified electrolysis conditions include using a stainless steel anode, a solution pH of 5À5 to 8À5, a temperature of 20 to 45‹ C., a voltage of 2 and an anode current density of 3 to 5 amps/sq. dm. After electrolysis, the body may be rinsed in water and dried.
