Abstract
624,483. Electrolytically brightening aluminium. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. March 28, 1947, No. 8431. Convention date, April 12, 1946. [Class 41] An aqueous electrolyte for brightening aluminium or aluminium alloys contains sodium carbonate, trisodium phosphate, and a small amount of sodium octyl sulphate. There may be 10 to 20 per cent sodium carbonate, 3 to 7 per cent trisodium phosphate, and .01 to .10 per cent sodium octyl sulphate. The article to be brightened is made the anode on the electrolytic bath, the temperature of which is about 80‹ C., and the voltage is between 5 and 20 volts. The article may be suspended in the electrolyte for a period up to 30 seconds before the current is turned on, to effect a preliminary etching.
