Abstract

1391808 Anodizing aluminium RIKEN KEIKINZOKU KOGYO KK 18 Oct 1972 [22 Oct 1971 (3) 30 Nov 1971 12 May 1972 29 May 1972 5 July 1972 47991/72 Heading C7B A coloured oxide coating is produced on Al or Al alloy material by anodizing the material in an aqueous solution of 0.5-5 g/100 ml of oxalic acid and 0.05-0.5 g/100 ml of H 2 SO 4 . The process also includes one of the following three alternative sets of conditions:- (a) a temperature of 0-12‹C and anodizing for 3-15 mins; (b) the solution also containing 0.05-0.5 g/100 ml HNO 3 and a solution temperature of 10-30‹C; and (c) the solution also containing 0.05-0.5 g/100 ml HNO 3 and 0.1-10.0 g/100 ml H 3 BO 3 , a solution temperature of 10-40‹ C and anodizing for 3-120 mins. In the process the solution may additionally contain Al ions, e.g. anodically dissolved Al or Al added as aluminium oxalate or sulphate. Direct current used in the anodizing may include ripple obtained by rectifying A.C. The Al material may be firstly degreased with an aqueous solution of NaOH and then neutralized with an aqueous solution of HNO 3 . Before the colour anodizing, the Al material may be pre-anodized by a usual method.
