1,274,104. Anodizing aluminium. SOC PER l'ESERCIZIO DELL ISTITUTO SPERIMENTALE DEI METALLI LEGGERI. Aug. 14, 1969 [Aug. 14, 1968], No.40593/69. Heading C7B. Coloured anodized coatings are formed on aluminium or aluminium alloys electrolytically in a cell divided by a diaphragm having pores of diameter from 0À1 to 50Á into an anodic compartment containing electrolyte capable of producing colouring and based on an aliphatic carboxylic acid and a cathode compartment. The diaphragm may be of polyethylene, glass or ceramic material. The anolyte may be of maleic, oxalic and/or tartaric acids with or without sulphuric acid. The catholyte may be similar to the anolyte and contain substances to prevent its reduction; or may be of alkali metal hydroxide or sulphate, or sulphuric or oxalic acids.
