467,267. Electrolytic surface treatment of aluminium and its alloys. JONES, G. C. Nov. 14, 1935, No. 31571. [Class 41] An oxide coating is produced on aluminium or an aluminium alloy by anodic treatment in an acid to which is added a potassium alum, e.g. potassium aluminium alum. A suitable bath consists of sulphuric acid, s.g. 1À224, containing 60 gms./lit. potassium alum and 12 gms. /lit. potassium sulphate. A voltage of 8-20 and current density 5-14 amps. per sq. ft. are employed. The potassium sulphate may be replaced by potassium dichromate.
