Abstract

498,485. Electrolytic surface treatment of magnesium and its alloys. BUZZARD, R. W. July 9, 1937, No. 19090. Convention date, July 28, 193.6. [Class 41] A coating is formed by applying to the metal A.C. or, as anode, D.C., in a bath comprising an aqueous alkaline solution, e.g. of sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate, and potassium permanganate or sodium chromate. The bath may contain also water-soluble silicates or sulphates or both. Example: (1) sodium hydroxide (or sodium carbonate) and potassium permanganate, (2) the carbonate, chromate, fluoride and silicate of sodium. Reference is made to Specifications 459,017 and 491,025. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use of fluorides, phosphates, sodium bichromate and sodium silicofluoride. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
