Abstract
752,901. Electroplating nidkel on magnesium or magnesium alloy. DOW CHEMICAL CO. Feb. 11, 1954 [March 9, 1953], No. 4095/54. Class 41. Magnesium or an alloy containing more than 85 per cent by weight of magnesium, after pickling in a dilute acid aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride or ammonium, sodium or potassium bifluoride and rinsing in water, is electroplated with nickel in an aqueous bath of pH 1 to 3 containing nickel bifluoride, hydrogen fluoride, and citric or tartaric acid or an alkaline earth metal salt thereof. The anode may be of carbon or nickel, the cathode current density is typically 30 to 100 amps/sq. ft. and the bath temperature is maintained at 125-140 F. Specification 538,615 is referred to.
