Abstract

825,928. Electroplating on nickel alloy wires. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. July 18, 1956 [July 29, 1955], No. 21951/55. Class 41. A thin wire of a nickel alloy is prepared for soldering by pickling in an aqueous bath containing hydrofluoric and nitric acids, rinsing in water, treating it anodically in aqueous sulphuric acid, and finally electroplating upon it. Typically a nickel-chromium resistance wire containing aluminium and copper is pickled for 1-5 secs. in a bath containing per gallon of water 1 fluid oz. hydrofluoric acid and 10 fluid ozs. nitric acid and is anodized for 1-5 secs. at 2 amps./sq. in. using a lead cathode, followed by a strike plating of nickel from a hot sulphate bath using a lead anode, and after rinsing in water a copper plating is applied from a hot Rochelle bath.
