Abstract

868,883. Stays for hinged articles. SMITH WALLIS & CO. Ltd. Nov. 13, 1959 [Aug. 7, 1959], No. 27003/59. Class 65(1). A casement window stay, comprising a slide bar 2 fixed to the hinged window frame and a stay bar 15 pivoted at one end to the fixed frame and at the other end to a slide 1 in the form of a sleeve, has a clamping screw 4 which applies pressure on the slide bar through a plastics bush 12, 13 lining the slide and a clamping lever 8 in splined engagement with the head 6 of the clamping screw, means being provided for limiting the angular movement of the lever relative to the slide. The lever has a projection 11 which abuts shoulders 10 on the slide and the position of the lever can be adjusted by means of the splined engagement so that the clamping position lies within its range of movement. The hole in the slide for receiving the screw 4 has a stainless steel insert 5. Nylon bushes 18 and stainless steel washers 20 are provided at the pivotal connections of the stay bar 15. All the main parts of the stay are formed of aluminium and can be anodised before assembly.
