A window stay comprises a bar 2 pivotally mounted at one end in a fitting 3 for attachment to a window, the pivot pin 6 passing through an aperture in the bar the central part of which has substantially the same diameter as the pin and which widens towards its ends, and the end of the bar having two pairs of parallel plane guide surfaces 14, 15 and 16, 17 respectively arranged so that the bar can pivot, in a plane containing the axis of the pin, between two extreme positions in each of which one pair of guide surfaces abuts the inner surfaces of lugs 4, 5 of the fitting. The surfaces of each pair are on opposite sides of the bar and are diametrically opposite one another with respect to the aperture. Holes 19 are provided in the bar for engagement with a pin on the window frame.
