Abstract

1,106,667. Toggle hinges. E. BORSANI, G. BORSANI and G. BORSANI [trading as SOC. N.C. ANGELO BORSANI DI E BORSANI & FIGLI]. 10 June, 1965 [18 June, 1964], No. 24656/65. Heading E2F. A toggle hinge for urging, for example, the door of a piece of furniture, into either closed or 90‹ open positions, comprises two frame members 1, 3 each having pivoted thereon two links 5, 6 and 9-9', 10 respectively. Links 5 and 9-9' are pivoted together at 13, and links 6, 10 are pivoted to links 9-9', 5 at 15, 14 respectively. A spring 17 acts between the pivot pin 7 of link 5 and a pin 16 in an extension 10' of link 10 to urge the frames 1 and 3 into the open or closed positions. In practice, spring 17 works in two telescopic members forming a piston and cylinder arrangement pivoted to pins 16, 7 respectively, and surfaces (20') and (20") are provided on part 9' of link 9 to abut links 10 and 6 in the closed and open positions respectively (Figs. 1, 2, not shown).
