Abstract
720,855. Spectacle frames. LISSAC, G. March 27, 1953 [April 5, 1952; Feb. 28, 1953], No. 8571/53. Class 97 (1). In spectacles having a main bar extending along the upper edges of the lenses and carrying temple hinges at the outer ends, each lens or each lens rim is attached to a 'torsion-bar secured to the main bar at least at two points lying on opposite sides of the point of attachment of the lens or rim to the torsion bar so that the latter may twist for adjustment or the absorption of shocks. As shown in Fig. 1, a lens 1 is secured at 2, 2<SP>1</SP> by pins or other means to a torsion bar 3 secured as by soldering at the points 4, 4<SP>1</SP> to the main bar 5. The points 2, 2<SP>1</SP> may be respectively nearer the points 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and the nose-pad arm 9 may be formed, as shown, as an extension of the bar 3 or separately secured to the main bar 5. Alternatively the bar 3 may be divided between the points 2 and 2<SP>1</SP> and the divided ends separately secured to the bar 5. In a further modification the attachment part 4<SP>1</SP> is provided by an apertured lug in which the end of the bar 5 is free to slide. To support the lens below the bar 5 the torsion bar 3 may have downward extensions 13a, 13<SP>1</SP>a, Fig. 11, to which the lens is secured at 2c and 2<SP>1</SP>c, the bar 3 being secured to the bar 5 at points 4, 41 and, if desired, 10. Alternatively the portions 13a, 13<SP>1</SP>a may be formed on separate bars, or the bar 3 have only one central downward extension to which the lens or lens rim is secured.
