Abstract
523,295. Spectacles. TENNANT, W. J. (American Optical Co.). Oct. 27, 1938, No. 10631/40. Divided out of 520,702. [Class 97 (i)] Spectacles comprise lenses secured at their nasal margins by holding means 6, slender adjustable temple supports 10 carrying the temples 11 which are connected at their nasal ends to the other frame members and follow the upper edge contours of the lenses, a bridge 2 having its ends adjacent the lenses, parts connected to the lens-holding means projecting downwardly from the ends of the bridge close to and partly overlying the nasal edges of the lenses and partly lying outside the plane of the lenses, and nose-pad supporting arms 8 attached adjacent the ends of these parts either to them or to the lensholding means or both. In the form shown, the parts projecting down from the ends of the bridge are formed with rearwardly and forwardly projecting loops 3, 4 and rearwardly turned lower ends 5 which are secured to the lens-holding means 6. The lens-holding means shown in Fig. 5 comprises a strap to which the lens is secured by a tubular member 12 and a pin 13 passing through a hole in the lens and secured together by solder. Leaf-springs 14 pinned to the yoke of the strap bear on the edge of the lens. The temple supports 10 may be of triangular section as shown in Fig. 6, the edge of the lens being correspondingly bevelled; or they may lie in grooves in the rear face of the lens. Their. outer ends may be attached to brace members secured to the lenses.
