Abstract

734,208. Spectacle frames. IRONS, A. A. Nov. 12, 1953 [Nov. 25, 1952], No. 29835/52. Class 97 (1). Each eye-frame of a spectacle frame is split and the side arms and the adjacent ends of the eye-frames are provided with pins and slots co-operating to form pivots and so arranged as to cause the divided parts of the eye-frames to be secured together when the side arms are mounted in position. As shown in Fig. 3, each end of a split eye-frame 1 has a lug 4 carrying a vertical slot open to the side or rear to allow the insertion therein of a pivot-pin 8 on the side arm 6, the pin being held as a press fit in the slots and the end of the side arm holding the ends 4 together. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 8, the frame ends 13 may be provided with pivot pins 14 engaging slots 16 on the side arm 6. The eye-frame may be split into two portions and be held together at one side by the side arm and at the other by a pin-and-slot or dovetail joint.
