Abstract

1,106,928. Window stays. R. A. SANDERS. 17 Aug., 1966 [30 June, 1965], No. 27682/65. Heading E2F. A window stay 1, for attachment to the sash of a casement or other hinged window, has at least two holes 5 and 6 spaced apart and interconnected by a slot 7 of less width than the diameter of the holes, a peg 10 having means for attachment to the window frame e.g. swivel fitting 2, and engageable in any one of the holes, a pin 11 on the peg freely receivable in slot 7, and a spring-loaded cap 14 on the pin for maintaining the stay in engagement with the peg, the arrangement being such that, when the stay is displaced against the action of the spring-loaded cap, disengagement of the stay with the peg is effected, thereby permitting longitudinal adjustment of the stay and the engagement of another of its holes with the peg, the slot receiving the pin during adjustment and limiting the extent to which the window may be opened. As shown (Fig. 4), peg plate 8 and peg 10 are integral and the peg is provided with a headed screw or pin 11 having a non-threaded shank 13 which has a clearance fit in the slot 7. A cap 14 of greater diameter than holes 5 and 6 is slidable on the shank 13 and is loaded by the spring 16 against the stay. In a modification, the stay has a plurality of holes 5A interconnected by slots 17 (Fig. 3 not shown) to enable the window to be opened to differing extents. To prevent window rattle, the peg and holes in the stay may be tapered.
