Abstract

1,160,459. Sliding casement stays. BASTALtd. and N. E. ELSBURY. 30 Nov., 1967 [2 Dec., 1966], No. 54560/67. Heading E2F. A sliding casement stay comprising a stay arm I pivotally secured at one end to a window sash and a cylindrical stay pillar 7 axially rotatable on a pivot plate 8 secured to a window frame, is characterised in that the stay pillar 7 is fitted with an axially sliding shell 15 having a pair of aligned openings therein adapted to register with the bore 6 of the stay pillar 7 and through which the stay arm 1 slidingly passes, and also having a screwthreaded central bore in the cap 16, which bore is engaged by a milled headed screw 17 for clamping the stay arm I in any position by engagement of the pillar 7 and shell 15 in mutually opposed directions. In a modification (Fig. 5), the shell comprises a sleeve 18 open at both ends and the screw 17 engages a central screw threaded bore 19 formed in the pillar 7. On tighteninig the screw, the sleeve 18 moves axially in the same direction as the axial movement of the screw and the said screwing action simultaneously operates to move the pillar 7 axially in the opposite direction. The stay may also be fitted to the lids of cabinets.
