Abstract

1,055,483. Pivoting doors. WILLIAM NEWMAN & Sons. Ltd. June 22, 1965 [April 11, 1964; Aug. 27, 1964], Nos. 15051/64 and 35077/64. Heading E2F. A door 5 is mounted on the depending spindle of a door closer mounted in the lintel by a method requiring the two parts, pin 19 and socket 24, of the bottom pivot (Fig. 5) to be held in rotatable engagement to form a selfcontained pivot and socket unit. The method involves mounting the door closer in the lintel, fixing a fitting to the closer spindle for engagement in a groove in the top edge of the door, and fixing the pivot and socket unit to the door by means of screws 23 through a plate 21. The door is then tilted and moved to engage the fitting in the groove, the fitting is fixed in the groove by screws, the door moved into the required position and the pivot and socket unit screwed to the floor as at 17. The bottom pivot unit shown in Fig. 5 consists of a domed nylon pin 19 on a metal plate 15, and having an integral peg 20 engaged in a corresponding socket 25 formed integrally with a metal plate 21, The two parts are held together by friction between the peg and its socket 25 or the peg 20 may be bulbous and "snap" into a correspondingly bulbous socket 25. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 9-13, not shown) the pin and socket are wholly cylindrical, the pin having a radial groove engaged by a grub screw threaded in the socket or a pin traversing a chord of the socket, or a circlip engaged with the socket either frictionally or in a corresponding radial groove therein.
