Abstract

1,039,036. Hinges and pivots. WILKES BERGER Ltd. May 25, 1965 [June 3, 1964], No. 23016/64. Heading E2F. A friction hinge for horizontally pivoted windows comprises two parts, 1 and 2, each having perpendicular flanges provided with screw holes (e.g. 8 and 11a on part 2), for fixing to the front and side surfaces of a window frame and sash respectively. Part 2 has an integral trunnion like pivot 12 for engagement in a split friction bearing 13 which may be of nylon and itself fits closely in the box-like casing formed in part 1. The degree of friction is altered by a screw 14 which is threaded in the side 17 of the bearing but runs freely in a bore in the other side and in a hole 15 in the casing 1 when the hinge is assembled. The two parts may be die-cast.
