Abstract
1,132,616. Window stay. R. A. SANDERS. 26 Jan., 1967 [22 Nov., 1966], No. 52160/66. Addition to 1106928. Heading E2F. A window stay fitting with locking device 4 as in Specification 1,106,928, wherein the holes 2 are spaced along the length of the stay 1 and are interconnected by slots 3, is characterised in that the stay includes adjustable means whereby the effective length of the slots, permitting longitudinal adjustment of the stay relatively to the peg, may be limited so as to limit the extent to which the window may be opened. The means consists of a stop slidable along the length of the slots 3 and capable of being locked in any desired position. The stop may be a cylindrical nut 6 (Fig. 3) having a reduced diameter 7 which fits the holes 2. A screw-driver slot 8 enables the nut to be screwed on to a domehead screw 9 or to be partially unscrewed so that the nut can slide along the slots 3. In modifications, the stop may be (a) an elongated plate 12 (Fig. 4, not shown) slidable in a channel in the stay and secured by a screw 13; (b) a handle 14 (Fig. 5, not shown), having a tongue 15 slidable in slots 3 and secured by a screw 16; (c) a bolt and Nylok (Trade Mark) nut (not shown) wherein the distance between the flats of the nut is such as to provide a sliding fit in the channel formed on the underside of the stay. In a further modification, a leaf spring (Fig. 6, not shown) fixed to the nose 18 of a swivel fitting 17 on a window-casement loads the stay downwardly on to the peg of a conventional peg plate.
