Abstract

1393671 Friction hinge ARTHUR SHAW MFG LTD 25 April 1972 [16 April 1971 9 Nov 1971] 9611/71 and 51867/71 Heading E2F In a friction hinge between two components 1, 3 for mounting on a fixed frame and movable member, a resiliently deformable bearing member 9 has tapering teeth 13 which engage in slightly longer, diverging recesses between the teeth 12 of a clamping member 6, and a bolt 11 can maintain pressure between the clamping member and clamping element 10 causing the teeth 13 to ride up their recesses and expand the member 9 against boss 7. The bearing member can be any suitable resiliently deformable material such as polytetroflouroethylene, acetol, or polyurethane. In another embodiment (Figs 3-5, not shown) a bearing member with teeth at each end is mounted between two clamping members each of which has recesses to engage the teeth.
