Abstract

829,345. Catch fastenings. SMITH & DAVIS Ltd. March 3, 1958 [March 16, 1957], No. 8745/57. Addition to 761,819. Class 44 A spring catch for a door or the like for non-prohibitively retaining the door or the like in a closed position comprises a bolt 18 which is resiliently urged forwardly to stop means into an extended position and includes on its forward or nose end a roller 31 to co-operate with a catch plate or the like, the roller being offset from an opening 28 extending rearwardly in the bolt from its forward or nose end to adjustment means to afford free access of a screwdriver or other tool to the adjustment means to operate said adjustment means to vary the position of the stop means and thus the amount of projection of the forward or nose end of the bolt beyond the front of the catch body 10. As shown in Fig. 3 the bolt is urged to its extended position by a coil spring 30 which is trapped between a shoulder 21 on the bolt and a fibre nut 29. The nut is threaded on to a screw 26 which forms both the adjustment means and the stop means and which passes through a hole in the end wall 25 of the bolt so that its head is in the opening 28 and its underside forms the stop means; the stem of the bolt threadedly engages the end wall 16 of the body 10 so that the amount of projection of the bolt can be varied. The bolt is provided with two arms 24 and as shown each carries a roller 31 there being a space between the rollers to provide access to the opening 28. The fibre nut 29 enables the compression of the spring 30 to be adjusted. In a modification, Fig. 8, a single roller 31 is carried by the arms 24 but the two arms are cranked so that the pivot of the roller is offset from the longitudinal axis of the bolt to enable the screwdriver or other tool to engage the head of the screw 26. To accommodate the arm 24 and the roller 31 the body 10 is slotted at 36 on one side of the body. To reduce the amount of offset the roller 31 may be provided with an annular groove.
