Abstract

828,194. Screw fasteners; anchor-bolts. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1956 [Sept. 20, 1955], No. 26832/55. Addition to 761,655. Classes 44 and 89(1) The fastener of the parent Specification is modified in that upon the screw being fully retracted, it is arrested to avoid i imparting to the housing an excessive thrust in an axial direction away from the structural unit by which it is carried. In the arrangement shown, a circlip 23 or the like is located in the housing 10 and is formed with an upturned end 24 which co-acts with ratchet teeth 22 provided on the 'end face of the screw head to prevent rotation of the screw beyond that necessary for full extraction of the screw thread from a threaded bush 4 associated with a structural unit 2. A spring 18 which biases a threaded washer 6 into engagement with the other unit 1 is turned inwardly through one of two slots 17 on the housing to form a detent 21 which engages a milled edge of the screw head to retain the screw against rotation by vibration. A spring-loaded plate 26 normally closes a recess 25, at the leading end of the screw and by which the screw is rotated by means of a tool A. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the ratchet teeth and circlip are replaced by a coil spring which is located in an extension of the housing. The screw head may be provided with a tool receiving recess in addition to or instead of the recess 25.
