Abstract

914,063. Captive screws and nuts. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. July 20, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 23471/58. Classes 89 (1) and 89 (2). A nut of nylon or like material is held captive in a bore 2 in a sheet 1 and comprises a shank 4 with a head 5 at one end and an enlargement 8 adjacent the other, which enlargement tapers from a diameter at the free end equal to or less than the shank diameter, to a diameter larger than that of bore 2. The head may have a metal sheath 9 which locates a driver in slot 6. The screwed bore 11 has truncated threads to lock a co-operating screw. In a modification, a captive screw similar to the nut has no bore 11 and is extended beyond the enlargement by a screwed shank.
