Abstract

884,815. Grommets; screw - sockets &c. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. May 2, 1958, No. 14169/58. Class 89(1). A one-piece nut-like fastener of non-metallic deformable mouldable material, e.g. nylon, for insertion in a hole 46, Fig. 2, in a panel 44 comprises head 24 and a body 22 separated by a neck 40 to provide opposed clamping surfaces 36, 32. A shoulder 42 is formed on one side of the neck to lock the fastener in its hole. The bore 26 may receive a screw securing a further panel against head 24. In a modification, the sides of the body are coplanar with the sides of the head and such fasteners may be made by cutting off lengths from an extrusion. In another arrangement, for securing a handle 64, Fig. 9, to a panel 44b, the head 24b has a sloping portion 72 and is slit at 76 at the mouth of the bore 26b to increase resiliency for insertion into hole 46b. In a further arrangement, the body surface 34c, Fig. 10, is arranged on a resilient arm 80. In yet another arrangement, for use with oversize holes in panels, the head and body are slotted at the mouth of the bore.
