Abstract

1359625 Structural joints K THOMSEN 25 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 44196/72 Heading F2M In order to interconnect member 7, of a tubular framework, and a ball 1, a tool is inserted through threaded bore 2 to turn screw 12. The screw has an unthreaded shank 11 extending through a threaded bore in a fixed plate 10. Initially, a threaded end portion of the screw 12 is engaged with the threaded bore in plate 10. As this end portion is screwed out of plate 10, so the tip of the screw engages and mates with the thread of the bore 2. In another form, the bore in plate 10 is unthreaded and the screw is urged towards the free end of the member 7 by means of a spring (16, Fig. 2, not shown). If the spring is omitted, the tool may draw the screw through the plate 10 by magnetic force, or a friotional or threaded interengagement.
