Abstract

1306266 Screw sockets J ROSAN SNR 21 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 24735/70 Heading F2H [Also in Division B3] A self-tapping screw socket 10 or stud has a continuous thread 12, portion 12a of which lies on a taper, an annular pilot flange 14, and a groove 15 to receive chips removed by the tapered portion. The groove diameter is less than the thread root diameter adjacent the groove. The flange 14 diameter is less than the thread crest diameter adjacent the groove. The flange 14 just fits in a bore to be tapped to prevent chips falling through the bore, e.g. to moving parts. The tapped bore of the socket has grooves 16 to enable it to be gripped by a tool.
