Abstract

1,244,874. Lock nuts. R. BEAUPERE. 29 Aug., 1968 [22 Sept., 1967], No. 41308/68. Heading F2H. A lock nut comprises an hexagonal base portion and an initially frusto-conical upper portion which is deformed so that the upper end of the threaded bore 1 has an oval cross-section. The nut may be formed of metal or plastics and a punch is used to deform the bore. In a modification the conical portion of the nut is provided with an axially extending diametral slot thus forming two jaws which are pressed together at their upper ends by the punch to form the oval portion of the bore. A further modification is described in which the base 13 of the nut is flat over its entire cross-section and the adjacent end of the bore has a concentric recess to enhance the locking effect when the nut engages the surface of a workpiece.
